CHEAPIE-TRAVEL.com has compiled its Top Ten List of Best Free Travel Blog Sites. These are personal favorites, that have
actually used for travel, and that have good factual information, and not just
fluff. In no way have these sites below
have any affiliation with cheapie-travel.com, and the opinions expressed herein
are that of cheapie-travel.com solely.
1. NomadicMatt.com
Nomadic
Matt is a great resource for all sorts of international travel and
backpacking. Matt often goes on hiking
adventures to show a great way to save some dough on your gypsieesque
excursions. Matt’s site just recently
went through a makeover, and his new site looks better than ever, and you
should check it out.
2. Fodors.com
Fodors,
a travel guide pioneer, maintains a blog (their “News” section), which provides
helpful information on traveling such as destination and landmark reviews, and
general activities. While you may be
familiar with their travel guide books, which assist travelers while they are
on the road, their blog can assist travelers and backpackers with pre-departure
research (or even pre-ticket purchasing research).
3. RickSteves.com/travel-tips
Rick
Steves is a seasoned travel guru, who produces, in my opinion, the handiest
pieces of travel equipment a backpacker could have – a guide book, also blogs
about travel tips. His tips are
categorized into sections such as money, phones & tech, health &
hygiene, and more. Rick Steves does
concentrate mainly on Europe, so keep that in mind when selecting travel
resources.
4. lonelyplanet.com
The lonelyplanet.com
website is one of the most comprehensive travel websites that I have
visited. And, rightly, it should
be. They have produced the highest
quality travel guide books on destinations spanning the globe. Their travel guides are not just maps of
where to go see the tourist attractions, they provide indepth reviews of cities
everywhere, and comprehensive dictionaries that allow people to travel to
places where they can’t speak the language.
Their website is no less and is a definite must-see.
5. frommers.com
Another
Travel guide aficionado, Authur Frommer, built a travel guide empire, and has
expanded to the web to provide a great resource for travelers to plan their
trip and to get travel tips from great
photography articles to entry and
custom requirements. Frommers.com is
a site you should check out.
6. usatoday.com/travel/
USA
TODAY Travel is a great site for some really helpful general travel, packing,
and other interesting reads pertaining to travel, and planning travel.
7. statravel.com
A
staple in my beginning travelling experiences.
STA Travel is a great site to learn about things to do in your
destination city, and a great resource on how to book those hotels, hostels,
events, tours or excursions. STA Travel
is geared toward students, but is not limited to students. A backpacker’s must see.
8. AcrossAndAbroad.com
Across
and Abroad is a great blog because, it describes things that people and
travelers actually care about. The
cost. I enjoy the factual information on
the destinations visited, products related to travel, and other hot tips.
9. Ytravelblog.com
This is
a site that I just discovered, and it’s a really great resource for learning
how to travel to a destination.
Ytravelblog shares the “INs and OUTs” and shows you the “ropes” of
traveling to a particular destination. A
definite must see free site.
10. theSavvyBackpacker.com
I love
this website and blog because they give exact information, check lists, and
just all around useful travel tips, tricks, and hacks for the backpacking
novice or expert. This is the crème de
la crème of useful information in cheapie-travel.com ‘s opinion.
